Editorial Meh

Velura has an intriguing premise—a tabletop RPG that bleeds into reality, forcing four girls into situations that blend worldbuilding, character dynamics, and fetish content—and the art and writing show genuine craft. However, the execution is severely hamstrung by design choices that frustrate rather than engage. Dialogue repeats the same plot points and character bickering dozens of times across a playthrough; vast stretches of gameplay consist of staring at a static livingroom while characters describe action happening offscreen (rather than showing it), punctuated by mandatory busywork like opening the same doors repeatedly or showering in real-time. The actual player agency is confined to these tedious, plot-irrelevant moments, while the sexual and action content—the draw of the game—happens in cutscenes you don't control. For a game pitched around impregnation and monster encounters, early demos offer only a handful of brief scenes separated by hours of walking and talking. The current build is also rough: save-system failures, out-of-bounds bugs, character pathfinding loops that freeze the game, and laggy cutscenes have plagued multiple versions. Devs are responsive and planning fixes (including a skip button, controller support, and a migration to Unity), but right now the game demands patience for a vision that isn't yet fully realized.

Description

You and your friends discover a mysterious board game on the way home from school—a tool left behind by the extinct Velurian civilization with a single purpose: to find suitable hosts to revive their species. The game operates in two distinct modes: by day, you experience a traditional RPG where you explore the world and live a normal life; by night, the board game takes over, sometimes unfolding like a tabletop adventure where your choices shape the story, and other times transporting you directly into the world of Velura as if you were playing Jumanji. In both scenarios, your four protagonists must navigate encounters with creatures intent on impregnating them to bear offspring. This is a story-driven, slow-burn experience where content builds gradually as the narrative develops, featuring multiple branching paths and optional encounters that reward exploration and discovery.
