Editorial Has potential
Astrid: Blade of Vallundra is an early-access RPG with strong visual presentation and atmospheric worldbuilding that appeals to its intended audience. Players consistently praise the animation quality, character writing (especially the protagonist's defiant personality post-defeat), and fresh art style. However, the game struggles with fundamental design: combat is simplistic and often tedious, the story loop is extremely linear (mission → dungeon → boss, repeat), and poor difficulty balancing forces players to intentionally lose to access lewd content on higher difficulties—a frustrating contradiction to good game design. The dev is actively listening to feedback and planning major improvements (expanded combat, town events, side quests, magic system), but these remain future work. The current build is playable but rough around the edges. Technical issues include black-screen crashes on some systems, animation performance problems on mid-range GPUs, map rendering bugs (notably in the abandoned town), and occasional CTD when interacting with underdeveloped enemy encounters. Save compatibility breaks with major updates, and the Android version lags behind PC. The slum area is admittedly unfinished, and several systems (magic, difficulty scaling) are incomplete. For a 0.41 build still in active development, this is expected—but it means players should expect a work-in-progress experience.
