Editorial Has potential
The Darkness Within is a promising debut that blends dark fantasy lore — drawing on both European medieval mythology and Chinese mythology — with a harem romance structure. Players consistently praise the atmosphere, fluid animations, and sound design, and several describe the first release as surprisingly strong for a 0.1. The worldbuilding sparks genuine curiosity, with reviewers already speculating about the story's deeper mysteries. The main creative criticisms are specific and constructive rather than damning: the prologue front-loads lore in a way that can disorient new players, the MC occasionally reacts in ways that feel out of character without enough context, and some "fake choice" moments (picking no simply ends the game) feel unnecessary. None of these are fatal flaws, and the developer is visibly engaged and responsive to feedback. On the technical side, the principal complaint is inconsistent scene transitions — a mix of automatic and click-through advances, with automatic ones running slow — which caused accidental skipping of dialogue. The developer has already acknowledged this and committed to fixes. For a first release, the build is otherwise stable and the ~2-hour runtime is considered a solid start. Community debate also touches on whether love-interest backstories should be disclosed, and whether the game will offer a harem or solo endings — matters of personal preference rather than quality concerns.
