Hearts in the Shadows is an early-stage sandbox VN about a psychology student managing relationships with multiple women while navigating an unfolding mystery. The core appeal—corruption, romance, and harem dynamics with a netori angle—is clear to its audience, and the developer is actively engaged with feedback. However, the current build (v0.3) suffers from significant pacing and content issues: progression is opaque, requiring constant notebook checks; the sandbox feels sparse with most activities clustered on specific days; and sexual scenes currently lack dialogue, appearing as bare animation placeholders. The narrative also struggles with plausibility (calling a mentor at 2 a.m. instead of family) and cohesion. The developer acknowledges these problems and is reworking systems, but right now there's too little to do between story beats, and too little story context for the sexual content to land.
