Editorial Has potential
Crossing the Lines impresses with its 2D art direction and ambitious narrative scope—a story of consequence and moral complexity that genuinely lands for players invested in character-driven drama. The writing itself is the weak point: the developer, a French native, composes in French and translates via LLM, producing passages that are often overwrought, metaphor-choked, and actively confusing ("words still wet in my mouth," "anger is cleaner than asking me to collapse"). Recent updates have been particularly rough, with entire scenes reading more like AI word-vomit than readable prose. Players consistently praise the dev's work ethic and visual craft but are vocal and specific about prose quality—this isn't subjective "flowery style" disagreement, it's genuine incomprehension. The sex content itself reads more naturally, suggesting the problem is concentrated in narrative passages. The game remains playable and the story compelling enough to hold an engaged audience despite the translation problems, but the barrier to entry is real.
