You are a high school baseball team manager. Your sole task is to decide each week's practice schedule. However, your roster turns over every three years—the first-year players you train today will become your ace pitchers in two years, but your current stars will be gone. Each player has unique talents and growth potential that aren't immediately apparent. Your attention matters: players respond to your encouragement and willingness to stay late, but neglect them and they quietly leave. In July, the summer tournament arrives. You make pitching changes, send in pinch-hitters, and chase victory toward the national championship. Failure means your third-year players graduate and a new team begins. There is no term limit to your tenure.
