Editorial Meh
The Way is a narrative-driven game with a troubled development history. The original version, which accumulated decent content over years of work, was abandoned—then revived as a "remake" that players largely view as a false restart: shorter, stripped-down, and visually overhauled in ways that divided the community. The new art style (described as cartoonish and AI-heavy) has been criticized for losing the original's tonal grounding and readability; text legibility issues and a more stylized aesthetic clashed with players' preference for the grounded, realistic look that matched the story's feel. The narrative promise remains (romance routes, character-driven plot), but execution is incomplete and in flux. Opinion splits sharply: some fondly remember the older build's scope and recommend trying it for its accumulated content, while others see the remake as a warning sign of abandonment to come. Current readiness is early-stage; this is work-in-progress (v0.02) with unfinished systems and ongoing rewrites.
