I Am the Gardener Hero is a Ren'Py visual novel with a premise so surreal it has become its own draw: you are summoned to another world not as a warrior or mage, but as a gardener—and the "crops" are human heads. Reviews are dominated by bafflement and dark curiosity; the unusual (arguably grotesque) premise is the entire appeal, and players approaching it as comedy or shock value report finding what they came for. However, the game suffers from real technical and presentation problems: character names display with corrupted text ("heræs" instead of the intended word), suggesting a localization or encoding issue, and at least one user encountered a failure to launch. The writing itself draws criticism as AI-generated, which—if accurate—reflects a creative shortcut that undermines the novelty premise. Audience reaction is sharply divided between those intrigued by the transgressive concept and those repelled by it; neither camp disputes that the execution is rough. If you are drawn to deliberately weird, grotesque, or shock-value adult games and can tolerate technical jank and suspected AI writing, there is something here worth a look. Otherwise, move on.
