Human Interest

Your uncle has died, leaving you his factory in Kessmarck—a port city where humans are second-class citizens requiring licenses, sponsors, and a kin's co-signature to own anything. Arriving with almost nothing but a borrowed room from your childhood friend Mana and her mother, you must navigate the city's complex rules, rebuild your inheritance, and uncover the secrets of why humans are kept on such a tight leash. Human Interest is a text-based sandbox RPG combining survival mechanics, character creation, and turn-based combat. Manage your energy, food, sleep, and health while juggling work, foraging, alchemy, fishing, and cooking to pay rent and the estate taxes. Build relationships with the city's residents—many of whom seem unusually interested in you—and gradually repair and reclaim your factory. The game features d20 skill checks you roll yourself, a dynamic city map with multiple transportation options, and an optional Ironman mode for additional challenge. Version 0.1 covers your first week in Kessmarck, from arrival to your first rent day. Character creation lets you customize backgrounds, traits, skills, and a 27-point stat pool. Future updates will add character portraits and expand the story.
