Despair opens with grounded, character-driven drama: players appreciate the renders, music, and emotional premise, and the dev responds to feedback. However, the story stumbles badly on its core mechanic—a nonsensical blackmail plot that many find impossible to take seriously. The MC is forced to join a class under threat of exposing a drunk kiss to someone with no girlfriend and no reason to care; reviewers consistently call this setup stupid, illogical, and frustrating, wishing they could refuse or punch the antagonist. Beyond that flaw, players like the LIs (especially Kylie and Erin) and the darker tone, though some find Ren and Triss equally obnoxious. The build is playable but rough: scattered name-variable bugs (MC called "Kei" despite custom naming), missing dialogue choices due to UI conflicts, choice-tracking errors, and proofreading slips. A solid foundation and sympathetic dev cannot excuse either the absurd premise or the technical sloppiness—come back when the story logic tightens and the bugs clear.
