Editorial Meh
Danger BLUE is a story-rich visual novel with three love interests and an engaging mystery hook, but it's hamstrung by a protagonist so passive and emasculated that he undermines every scene he's in. The core complaint—consistent across dozens of reviews—is that the MC's inaction during critical moments (a shower groping, blackmail threats) strains credibility and immersion. Players don't object to a flawed protagonist who *tries and fails*; they object to one who freezes, apologizes, and lets others clean up his mess. The developer reworked the infamous shower scene after backlash, but reviewers note the core problem persists: a reactive, blame-shifting MC failing to protect or stand up for himself. The love interests (Lori, Chloe, Yumi, and others) show promise and are generally well-received in isolation; Evelyn's characterization remains divisive, caught between romantic interest and a catalyst for the MC's worst moments. The writing elsewhere is competent, and the mystery/family-drama setup has potential, but the MC's passivity poisons the experience for players who self-insert—which is the genre's entire appeal.
