Editorial Meh
BullTales is a choice-driven adult visual novel from Late Night Studios that casts the player as a betrayed protagonist who, guided by a supernatural entity, transforms from victim to dominant pursuer — a deliberate NTR-reversal of the studio's prior game CuckTales. The art is consistently praised as the highlight: clean, hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation for intimate scenes, expressive character designs, and a pleasant lo-fi soundtrack. Branching choices, unlockable outfits, a gallery of 25 scenes, and multiple endings give it decent replay value for completionists, and the 3–5 hour runtime feels satisfying to most players who buy in for the genre. The criticisms are real but split in nature. A vocal subset finds the writing shallow or tonally off — calling the dialogue abrupt, the MC hard to root for, and the revenge fantasy underdeveloped — while others find exactly that power-trip fantasy rewarding. More concrete is a recurring complaint about broken branching: several reviewers report that choices are ignored or lead to contradictory outcomes, certain gallery scenes (notably the Nancy route) cannot be unlocked due to coding errors, and some achievements fail to trigger. The Chinese and other non-English localizations also had notable translation issues at launch (one reviewer revised their rating after a patch). The community has resorted to sharing manual file fixes. Taken together, the game delivers on its artistic and conceptual promise for its niche audience, but ships with enough logic and branching bugs that players should expect some friction.
