Borrowed Lives is a text-based sandbox RPG set in a medieval fantasy world. You play as a Soulbound—a supernatural being inhabiting a dead body—and choose from eight distinct origins, each with unique stories, challenges, and starting conditions. The game combines dynamic storytelling with tactical turn-based combat, character progression, and survival mechanics. Core gameplay involves building your character's stats, learning skills, earning traits, and customizing your playstyle through exploration and interaction. You form relationships with NPCs, manage survival needs like health and hunger, and make choices that shape your journey. Combat encounters use weapons, magic, and tactical skills; you can also engage in crafting, trading, and various careers to build wealth and influence. The game features a detailed social and intimate system where you interact with characters throughout the world, complete dynamic quests, and experience consequences for your actions. Survival elements include managing temperature, exhaustion, and other needs while navigating a rich medieval world with multiple biomes, locations, and NPCs with their own personalities and goals.
