Editorial Has potential
Borrowed Lives is an ambitious, mechanics-rich adult RPG with character progression, trading, and sexual content woven into a branching world. The creative vision—consent mechanics, detailed stat systems, NPC relationships, multiple origin routes—is ambitious and genuinely interesting; players who connect with its scope praise the systems deeply. However, the current build is severely fragmented. Navigation breaks unpredictably (soft-locks in quests, wrong exit links, infinite loops in taverns and caves); sex scenes confuse rather than excite due to UI scrolling fatigue and impossible position descriptions; NPC persistence fails (characters reset to random identities on reload); quest rewards don't trigger; and combat feels broken even on easy difficulty. The developer acknowledges the game is "not near a state where it will be bug-less" and asks players not to continue if frustrated. For those willing to restart frequently and tolerate substantial technical friction, the underlying systems show real promise. For most, waiting for a more stable build is the humane choice.
