Editorial Meh
After Years Apart has solid artistic merit and genuine fan appeal: the character designs and renders are charming, the writing is decent, and players appreciate the visual style. However, the game suffers from significant pacing and content problems. Sex scenes are short and lack dialogue or audio depth; the game functions as a "waiting simulator" where players grind time-skips between sparse story events. Progression is opaque (hidden requirements, long trigger delays), and the map design is unintuitive (the infamous pool door). The build is rough—multiple bugs reported (event triggers failing, dialogue variable errors, character duplication, animation crashes, missing interactive elements)—though the core game remains playable. With only about 5–6 hours of content after a year, momentum depends entirely on whether the developer can expand meaningful activities beyond sex scenes and fix the technical issues that break immersion.
