Editorial Meh
Up & Down is an early-access racing-themed visual novel set in the richly detailed fictional city of Last Verbos, and the handful of genuine player reactions suggest it makes a strong first impression on the technical side: animations are singled out as unusually fluid for the genre, and the character renders draw consistent praise. The developer is clearly ambitious — the in-universe lore drops, character blogs, and world-building effort are extensive — though the thin slice of actual story content available so far leaves reviewers divided on whether the writing holds up: one longer critique flags plot-logic gaps and an over-reliance on culturally specific references that may alienate Western players, while others are simply eager for more. A few content moments (a forced scene between the MC and Olga, NTR questions, relationship-type ambiguity with certain characters) are flagged as surprises rather than welcome ones for parts of the audience, so prospective players should note the game leans into some bold content choices. Community feedback is sparse and shallow at this stage, which is expected for a demo; the real verdict will come with the full Chapter 1 release. On the build side, this is firmly a work-in-progress: the developer openly states Chapter 1 is still rendering, and the current public version covers only a partial first day with unskippable long render pauses noted by at least one player. There is plenty to appreciate in what exists, but players expecting a complete experience should be prepared to wait.
