Editorial Meh
Of Memories New and Old shows genuine promise in its story and world-building — several players call it interesting and worth following — but the current build is a different story. Nearly every reviewer who plays past the early days runs into hard stops: broken dream sequences, softlocks triggered by doing tasks in the wrong order, items that don't register as purchased, and a blank screen that halts progress on Fridays. The game functions as a linear kinetic novel underneath a sandbox shell, and its variable logic punishes any deviation from the intended sequence, often requiring console commands just to keep moving. On the creative side, the writing draws enough interest that players want to push through the technical wall, which speaks to the underlying potential. The main design criticism is that the sandbox framing feels dishonest — choices exist but most lead to softlocks — and there is no quest log or reliable hint system to guide players through the strict ordering the game demands. Community feedback is mostly a stream of stuck players helping each other with workarounds, so a clear picture of the full story is hard to form. Worth keeping an eye on, but in its current state it is effectively unplayable for most.
