Monster University is an ambitious sandbox with genuinely thoughtful character-customization options—including gender identity, sexuality, and body-type modulation—but the game makes a critical UI mistake by forcing those options through RPG Maker's one-at-a-time menu system, turning what should be a quick setup into a tedious 10-minute gauntlet. Players consistently report that the same depth of choice works smoothly in Twine or HTML-based games, but here the engine actively works against the design. Beyond setup, the actual game world feels thin: NPCs are procedurally generated from a few parts glued onto one base model, unique characters have mismatched art styles, and sex scenes—the main interactive content—are equally laborious to navigate, requiring you to guess which position combinations unlock which options, with no feedback if you pick wrong. One player got stuck in an infinite-loop class. The writing itself rarely appears, and illustrations are sparse. For players patient enough to push through setup and willing to read their way through sex scenes with minimal visual feedback, there's a modular engine worth exploring; for most, it will feel like work.
