Fading Promises is an NTR-focused visual novel where a newly-married couple navigates temptation and infidelity, with narrative branches that purportedly split into "alpha" and cuckold routes. Community reception is sharply divided: some appreciate the premise and character work, but a substantial cohort finds the story's logic deeply frustrating. The core complaint is that the protagonist makes passive, seemingly irrational choices—failing to communicate warnings to his wife, refusing to act on evidence of threats—which players experience as beta behavior masquerading as a setup for an alpha path. Defenders argue this reflects realistic psychology (people don't believe accusations against charming figures), but skeptics see it as contrived padding that undermines the fantasy the game advertises. The wife's character—demanding luxury goods while unemployed and dismissive of her husband's concerns—also splits opinion: some see her as a sympathetic target for manipulation, others as an unlikeable nag.
