Editorial Meh
Elise and the Spellbinding Marionette is a sprite-based RPG with appealing character art and a distinctive visual style, but it struggles significantly in execution. The narrative opens with lengthy, unskippable exposition that tests patience early on, and combat encounters—particularly grab/groping attacks—cannot be skipped and repeat every turn, creating tedious rather than engaging encounters. More critically, the build is unstable: players report hard crashes when reaching certain in-game milestones (specifically a sexual-harassment-themed achievement), missing syntax in key story items, and progression-blocking bugs on basic traversal (stairs that require noclip workarounds). While the art direction shows promise and the game has genuine fans, the current state is too broken for most players to reach the content that works. Community discussion is split between those who've found workarounds and those stuck at hard stops.
