Downfall: A New Beginning centers on a character named Jane whose gradual corruption arc was the original draw for most fans. The strongest praise is almost entirely for Jane as a character model and the early corruption-focused writing, while the most common criticism is that recent updates have abandoned that storyline in favor of what reviewers call a repetitive "happy hooker" route — shallow hook-ups with little narrative weight. One detailed review sums up the divide well: the dev's choice to go full-time comes at a moment when the creative direction feels at its weakest, not its strongest. Community feedback is otherwise noisy and thin, dominated by update-wait complaints, leak-hunting, and off-topic chatter rather than substantive critique. On the build side, the game is clearly mid-development (currently versioned around 0.03.2 Beta), updates are infrequent and short, and several reviewers flag that individual updates wrap up in ten to fifteen minutes. The dev has publicly announced a shift to full-time development with promises of more frequent content, so the picture may improve — but right now this is firmly a work in progress.
