Anomaly Cafe is a horror-themed café sim with adult content, drawing comparisons to VA-11 Hall-A and described by some as what Junji Ito might design if he made a porn game — a compliment to the game's distinctive, unsettling art style and atmosphere. The yuri scenes earn genuine praise from that audience, and the SCP-inspired cast of anomalous customers has clear appeal for fans of that corner of horror culture. That said, the game has real friction points even beyond its early v0.1 state. Community feedback is full of confused players unable to figure out recipes or how to trigger scenes — a sign that onboarding is essentially absent. More critically as a creative work, some reviewers find the sexual encounters feel arbitrary and tonally disconnected, dropped without context or character motivation, and a handful flag unexpected guro content as an unwelcome surprise mid-session. The build also has a confirmed bug where recipes vanish after death. Intriguing concept with a strong visual identity, but rough around the edges both technically and in how it delivers its content.
