Methodology

Every number in Insights is computed from the porn-games.org catalog: an index of adult games that is revisited every month. Reports are built from aggregates only. They name no games and no developers.

Definitions below carry a version (v1). When a definition changes, it gets a new version and a new anchor. A published report keeps citing the version it was computed with, so an old figure stays correct under its own definition.

Which games are counted

Population, v1. A report counts the games visible in the catalog when its data was frozen. Games under review following a complaint are excluded from every figure, including tag and genre breakdowns.

When a game first appeared

First appearance, v1. The date a game first became public.

• For games developed in public on community platforms, this is the date the game’s development thread was opened. The “release date” these games advertise is usually moved forward with every new build, so it describes the latest build, not the game’s debut.
• For games sold as finished releases, it is the release date.

A new game in a monthly report is a game whose first appearance falls in that month.

Abandoned

Abandoned, v1. A game counts as abandoned when it is not marked complete and its latest known update is more than 365 days older than the report’s data date.

This definition only applies to games with a known update history, meaning games distributed as development builds. A game younger than 365 days cannot be abandoned under v1. Lifecycle figures therefore cover only cohorts old enough to be judged, and only cohorts the catalog covers completely.

Shares, not counts

Tag and genre trends compare shares of a month’s new games, not absolute counts. A tag moving from 4% to 6% of new releases is a real shift. An absolute count can grow just because more games were released that month.

What Insights never shows

Insights contains no explicit imagery. No figure, label, chart or download names content that is illegal as imagery in the countries our readers work in: sexual content involving minors, bestiality, necrophilia, and sexual violence that threatens life or causes serious injury. Such tags are left out of every breakdown under any name or alias. Legal themes are shown as they are. Hiding them would make the statistics describe nothing.

Frozen figures and corrections

A report’s figures are fixed when it is published. They are never recomputed silently, even if the catalog later changes, so a number someone has quoted keeps saying the same thing. When a published figure turns out to be wrong, the report gets a visible, dated correction. The original page is not rewritten.
