Editorial Has potential
What We Left Behind is an early-access visual novel with an unusual dual-protagonist structure: rather than simply choosing a male or female lead, both characters run concurrent, intertwining story arcs — the male MC navigating a corporate-versus-art crossroads, the female MC pulling threads that directly shape the overarching plot. The renders draw consistent praise and the writing shows genuine ambition, with at least one reviewer noting the game's stylish visual presentation and sharp cultural references (an American Psycho nod earned an approving laugh). The main creative friction is taste-based: Val's extensive tattoos put some players off, one reviewer finds the writing dull, and those wanting a pure harem route or a single-protagonist experience may feel underserved. These are content-fit issues rather than craft failures — the production values and storytelling intent are evident. On the technical side, the project is very early in development (v0.0.2 at time of review), with a third update still in progress and a slow release cadence drawing comment. The build itself appears functional — an in-game gallery unlocker, an Android port, and a Mac link are all in place — but with only two updates in roughly a year, there is simply not much content yet, and the scope of what's promised makes patience a requirement.
