What Remains

What Remains is an adult interactive visual novel set on a remote tropical island. You play as a man who, after a catastrophic earthquake destroyed his previous life and the woman he loved, relocated to work as a SCUBA instructor and dive master, seeking anonymity and escape from grief and responsibility. Eighteen months into his isolated new life, he begins opening himself to new relationships on the island, only to discover hints that the disaster which took everything from him may not have been purely natural. The game features branching narrative choices that shape which characters you meet, how scenes unfold, and which of multiple endings you experience, along with a trait system (Competence, Resolve, Connection, Perception) and a functional in-game phone interface. At its core, What Remains explores themes of loss, grief, identity, resilience, and whether someone can truly escape their past through isolation—or whether genuine healing requires connection.
