Editorial Has potential
The Royal Yes presents striking hand-drawn artwork and branching narrative paths that reward multiple playthroughs—a genuinely inventive use of Ren'Py that many players find refreshing. However, the demo is hamstrung by poor UX: unskippable day-to-night transitions that pad playtime, a clunky save system (limited slots, multiple clicks), an intrusive text box, and missing content relative to promotional screenshots. Community discussion centers almost entirely on whether the art is human-made or AI-generated; while some spot technical inconsistencies (chainmail, rivets, odd anatomy details), others defend its consistency and human touch. The developer claims human artists but offers no public credit, fueling skepticism. Stripped of metadata disputes, the core experience is solid but unfinished—a promising foundation buried under rough execution.
