Editorial Worth it
Woolly Eyes GAIDEN succeeds as a companion piece to the dark original by doing something different: five self-contained slice-of-life stories set in the same Kabukicho underworld, but stripped of violence and paranoia. Where the main game was grim crime drama, the gaiden lets its large cast breathe, joke, and show softer sides—rival yakuza play baseball, characters livestream, and dangerous killers share meals like old friends. The writing is solid and the art remains excellent, with strong character work across the board. However, some players find the episodic structure scattered compared to the main game's tight plot, and the light tone may feel jarring if you just finished the darker original. The content is brief (3–5 hours), with only a few H-scenes per story, so this is fan-service for those who want more time with these characters rather than new narrative weight. If you finished A Tale of Cutthroat Lovers and want to see your favorites in happier circumstances, this delivers; if you're hoping for equal dramatic stakes, reset expectations.
