Editorial Meh
SYNN:Labs is a clever puzzle-game hybrid where you engineer fictional creatures by carefully feeding a biomass substrate the right chemical composition and temperature to unlock genetic mutations. The pixel art and animations are genuinely well-crafted, and players who crack the core mechanic report genuine enjoyment—the puzzle-solving is satisfying once it clicks. However, the game is hamstrung by a brutal RNG system that makes success feel arbitrary rather than earned: you cannot control which chemical you add each day, leading to wasted resources and failed runs through no fault of your planning. The tutorial is also insufficient; many players report spending multiple playthroughs confused, and relying on community posts for basic strategy is poor design. Recent patches have added some QoL improvements and a workaround (day-2 chemical access), but the core frustration persists. Mobile support is notably broken—interaction is missing or non-functional across devices. The decision to paywalls the save feature has also soured community sentiment.
