Editorial Meh
Sun City – Episode 1 is a grief-driven adult visual novel with a moderately engaging premise: a young man relocates to a new city after losing both parents, navigating new relationships while processing loss. Visuals and character models earn genuine praise from a portion of the community, and the story's emotional grounding is acknowledged as a relative strength for the genre. That said, the writing is critically undermined by pervasive pronoun errors throughout the English text — characters routinely have their genders swapped mid-sentence — making dialogue frequently confusing and immersion-breaking. NSFW scenes are described as sparse, stiff, and awkwardly stitched together. The runtime of roughly two to three hours for a paid Episode 1 is the other major sticking point, with many players feeling the price-to-content ratio is simply not there. Player opinion is genuinely split: those who enjoy slow-burn narrative setup and find the visual style appealing give it cautious praise, while detractors — a clear majority in the reviews — find the combination of poor translation, thin content, and underwhelming adult scenes hard to overlook. The developer has since announced that the game is being retired from sale with no further episodes planned, which removes any hope of the story payoffs the episodic structure was banking on. As a standalone creative work it lands as a flawed but not entirely without-merit first chapter — though the writing quality issues are serious enough to dampen even that modest assessment.
