Editorial Don't bother
Squid Girls 18+ is a budget adult visual novel paired with obstacle-course platforming, neither of which lands consistently. The visual novel uses squid-girl character designs as comedic framing for lighthearted dating-sim fare—playful and self-aware, but narratively thin; the platforming is mechanically simple and exploitable (players bypass obstacles by walking around them), with uneven difficulty and janky controls that feel unresponsive even when mastered. Community reception is split: a few players appreciate it as a cheap, silly escape with decent character art and low expectations; most report shallow storytelling, repetitive level design, unpredictable difficulty spikes, unfair hit-box detection, and collision bugs that feel punishing rather than challenging. Even at steep discounts, most players found it forgettable filler—playable in 1–2 hours, but offering little reason to finish beyond achievement hunting. The game doesn't misrepresent what it is (parody, low-effort, fanservice-driven), but it executes neither its creative nor mechanical ambitions with conviction.
