Editorial Has potential
Sovereign Shores is an ambitious open-world sandbox RPG — explicitly compared by players to Degrees of Lewdity — that packs in a striking number of systems: economy, combat, relationships, pregnancy, race selection, and more. The creative ambition is genuine and the design direction earns real excitement from a portion of the community, who call it promising and hope the developer sticks with it. A few players raised concern that gender and pronoun handling makes it hard to identify NPCs, and others note that the sheer density of interconnected stats may be unsustainable for a solo project, but these are design-direction critiques rather than evidence the underlying concept is weak. The current build, however, is in rough shape. Recurring reports detail a broken ZIP archive requiring manual file restructuring before the game will even open, a content-warning screen that fails to advance on certain browsers, save-import errors citing undefined variables, combat that disengages after three turns regardless of context, basic needs systems (food and water) that are difficult to satisfy, and an energy drain that outpaces available actions. Community members have posted workarounds for several of these issues, but a new player should expect a bumpy experience before any of the game's content is accessible.
