Editorial Meh
Save the Kingdom is a fantasy adult visual novel centered on escorting a princess to an arranged marriage, with the emotional core being the protagonist's personal bond with her. The premise—duty versus friendship—creates genuine narrative tension, and players who enjoy character-driven choice-based fiction will find the central relationship compelling. However, the game suffers from significant creative and technical shortcomings. Writing quality is widely criticized as mediocre, with grammatical errors and clumsy pacing; the story is short (1–2.5 hours) with limited branching that rarely changes outcomes; and many choices feel inconsequential, undermining the "choices matter" promise. The game is heavily furry-focused, a core feature that will alienate those uninterested in that content. On the technical side, it remains in Early Access with no recent updates or developer communication—a red flag after over a year of silence. The build is missing basic features (no gallery, no achievements, no animations), lacks Steam Deck support, and has scattered polish issues. For its niche audience (adult VN fans who embrace furry content), the renders are decent and the price reasonable on sale; for everyone else, the short runtime, limited interactivity, unfinished state, and broken promises around choice consequence make it hard to recommend.
