Editorial Has potential
Saku the Covert Agent blends hacking-themed puzzle-solving with visual novel storytelling and adult content into a surprisingly polished package. The game's strongest appeal is its immersive hacker fantasy: varied mini-games (frequency tuning, circuit-patching, maze-walking, keyboard-mashing) create genuine atmosphere rather than feeling like padding, and the cyberpunk UI design reinforces the illusion of being an elite digital infiltrator. The narrative follows Shadow Code, a legendary hacker, as he collaborates with Saku, a covert operative, to unravel a conspiracy—the story is linear but engaging, with well-voiced Japanese dialogue and memorable characters. Side missions add substantial optional content with their own short narratives and rewards. The adult content—animated scenes with Saku and static CGs from side quests—is high-quality and integrated into progression rather than gated behind DLC. However, significant issues temper the experience. The game is short (1–2 hours for main story, longer with side content), and player feedback reveals a frustrating pattern of bugs: gallery scenes unlocking/locking inconsistently after partial replay, the "check box content" freeze requiring game restart, and occasional quest-launch failures—issues that a July 2026 patch addressed but which suggest the build still has stability rough edges. Text-skipping is absent, dialogue-advance controls are inconsistent (click vs. keyboard in different scenes), and there is no chapter-select or quick puzzle-skip option, making replays tedious. A June 2026 free update added two new heroines and story content, substantially expanding the game; earlier reviews from the original EA version complained of very short content, but the current build is more generous. Players are divided: some praise the clever design and find the length acceptable for the price; others feel the puzzles become repetitive and the overall experience is more "light snack" than "meal." The game succeeds at what it attempts—a hacker-fantasy visual novel with engaging mechanics—but lacks the polish and feature-completeness expected of a finished release.
