Editorial Meh
Rotting Valentine wears its Bloodborne inspiration openly — Soulslike aesthetic, cursed weapons, plague-ridden atmosphere — and the community's reaction is split almost entirely along those lines: admirers praising the grim visuals and overall style, skeptics dismissing it as a derivative clone with little to add. On pure creative merit, the art direction lands for its target audience, and the 18+ scenes are reportedly fully animated, which earns genuine appreciation. The writing and world-building receive almost no commentary, suggesting they leave little impression either way. The build, however, is a clear work-in-progress with real technical friction. Multiple players report fundamental control and input issues — no key rebinding, a broken mouse cursor mid-conversation, and a game that can lock up entirely on the title screen after a crash requiring a restart. One reviewer was stopped cold within 30 seconds by the controls alone; another couldn't get past the opening screen on a second launch. A full release is reportedly not expected until early 2026, which explains the rough edges but doesn't change the current experience. If you're drawn to the aesthetic, it may be worth watching, but the build is not ready for a smooth playthrough today.
