Editorial Meh
Roommates is a compact, choice-driven romance visual novel centered on cohabitation fantasy with three potential love interests. The core appeal—intimate domestic interactions, repeated contact, and branching affection paths—lands effectively for its niche audience, and the character artwork is frequently praised as strong. However, the game suffers from significant structural and technical issues that undermine the experience. Most immediately, the build is plagued by bugs—system-level crashes, save-incompatibility problems, and unpredictable errors—that damage both replay and progression. Beyond technical problems, players consistently report weak guidance (no tutorial or clear mission design), repetitive daily routines that feel grindy, unclear CG-unlock conditions, minimal audio, and uneven localization (some scenes lack translation entirely). The writing itself is serviceable but repetitive in dialogue, and the game feels more like a half-finished sandbox dating simulator than a complete visual novel with real narrative arcs or endings. For players who accept the narrow scope and can navigate without in-game direction, the character appeal and fantasy setup may sustain interest; for everyone else, the poor guidance, technical instability, and unpolished presentation make it a frustrating experience that demands external walkthroughs to function at all.
