Editorial Meh
Rome, 105 BC is a text-based dynasty simulation set in the Late Roman Republic, built around managing a lanista (gladiator trainer) across generations. The core concept and time-period hook are strong, and players appreciate the inheritance/heir-play system and the elegant time structure (12 turns = 1 year). However, the game suffers from two distinct problems. First, mechanically, combat stats feel largely cosmetic—players report that a gladiator with 100 across all attributes loses regularly to one with 10, making stat investment feel pointless and undermining the simulation's depth. Second, the interface is entirely menu-driven with no visual immersion or persistent world: no character customization, no map navigation, no encounter design—just spreadsheet management. The game reads as an early-stage framework with ambitious systems and breadth but lacking the depth, UI polish, and mechanical balance needed to sustain engagement. A few players also note it contains no sexual or erotic content despite being hosted on an adult platform, which may disappoint those seeking that dimension.
