Editorial Don't bother
Restore is a technically competent visual novel with striking artwork, but its creative vision is fundamentally a torture-and-degradation fantasy with minimal narrative coherence. The core appeal is explicit: extreme physical and psychological abuse of female characters, framed through an incoherent plot involving dream worlds and time dilation that reviewers consistently describe as nonsensical. The story promises restoration and recovery but undermines its own premise by having characters dismiss months or years of severe trauma with no lasting consequences. Community opinion is deeply divided—some players recognize the artistic effort but are alienated by the intensity and gratuitousness of the content; others feel the game doesn't commit fully enough to its stated themes. A smaller subset actively seeks this exact material. The game's tagging is disputed (NTR, violence, ryona, torture), and several reviewers report being blindsided by content they found genuinely disturbing rather than erotic. If extreme non-consensual scenarios and detailed descriptions of torture are not your draw, this game has little else to offer.
