Editorial Worth it
Ravager is a dark fantasy RPG visual novel that succeeds on multiple fronts: writing, world-building, meaningful choice systems, and a refreshingly rare premise (playing as the dragon, not the hero). The cast is memorable and well-voiced, the artwork is hand-drawn and detailed, and the game includes extensive fetish/kink options that can be toggled on or off to suit player comfort. Community consensus emphasizes strong narrative depth, genuine replayability across multiple routes, and a level of care in production that stands out amid AI-generated competition. However, community feedback reveals two consistent friction points. First, repetitive clicking through menus to check captive status or map changes frustrates some players—the UI design, while functional, feels dated for the scope of content. Second, the game has been in early access for five years with no definitive endpoint in sight, which some find concerning for long-term investment. A few players report specific narrative choices (notably around a character named Maelys) that felt narratively unsatisfying after significant time investment. Despite these quibbles, the overwhelming majority finds the writing, character work, and adaptive branching story more than justify the purchase price.
