Editorial Worth it
Opportunity is a well-written linear visual novel that finds real heart in its portrait of a struggling single mother exploring sexuality and financial independence. The prose is engaging and funny, the cast diverse and genuinely likable, and the handling of kinks, queer relationships, and sex work respectful and sex-positive. However, the game's linear structure (false choices don't branch the story), slow pacing heavy on dialogue, lack of animations, and missing gallery are persistent complaints that undercut the experience, especially at $15. The writing and characters won't be for everyone—some find the tone meandering, the MC's insecurities exhausting, or the sexual content misaligned with expectations—but those who connect with Jackie's journey and the game's ethos of consensual, diverse intimacy report genuine attachment and satisfaction.
