Editorial Has potential
Meritocracy of the Oni & Blade is one of Oneone1's more ambitious entries, and the community largely agrees it delivers where the studio's strengths lie. The hand-drawn CGs are plentiful and well-regarded, the voice acting earns consistent praise across multiple languages, and the three-route structure with ten endings gives completionists a meaningful amount to work through. The corruption-and-revenge narrative is seen as a high point by many, though a few critics find the storytelling uneven—character motivations underdeveloped early on, with key lore gated behind specific routes. The H-stat and branching-defeat system is clever in concept, but several reviewers note that the body-development mechanics feel more like blunt number-tracking than a genuine growth experience, and the prostitution side-content sits somewhat detached from the main narrative. The combat is the most consistent complaint: it is trivially easy, with a single spam strategy covering nearly all encounters, and the RPG progression stripped to almost nothing outside of leveling. The game plays more like an interactive visual novel with light turn-based dressing than a full RPG. One technical note worth flagging: the Steam version remains on an older build (v1.03) while DLsite has reached v1.14, meaning some bugs reported by earlier players may persist here. That said, the Steam release does include all adult content without any patch, which reviewers consistently appreciate. For fans of dark ero-RPGs who prioritise art, voice work, and branching narrative over gameplay depth, it remains a solid recommendation; those seeking real combat challenge or tightly integrated storytelling will find the experience mixed.
