Editorial Worth it
KOTAMON is a cozy collect-'em-up with genuinely appealing art direction and card designs that reference anime, games, and internet culture. You pick garbage, upgrade your stats, and gradually unlock cards to assemble into foil-quality versions—a satisfying loop that works well for the first few hours, especially as an idle-friendly podcast game. However, the core loop hits a wall: after upgrades cap out, completion becomes a grind of duplicates with no reward, and the minigames (gluing and cleaning cards) verge on tedious busywork by mid-game, though a recent patch added a skip option. Opinion divides on late-game motivation—some find the art alone worth it, others feel the payoff doesn't justify the time. The build is stable now after fixes to autogluing and disappearing cards, but save corruption has been reported and Steam version code issues persist on some setups.
