Editorial Meh
High School Master has strong character art and visual appeal that drew players in, but the experience is hamstrung by tedious, opaque sandbox design. The core complaint is relentless grinding: players must randomly tap locations in the school hoping to trigger story scenes, with no hint system or clear progression. Financial pressure (bills, hunger) creates artificial difficulty rather than meaningful choice. Animations are sparse and low-quality, the UI is described as actively painful, and the non-Ren'Py engine exacerbates navigation frustration. Even with leaked cheat codes (which don't reliably work), many hit a wall of repetitive busywork before reaching new content. One long-time player persisted despite the tedium, oddly charmed by character quirks and absurdist humor, but explicitly warns against getting hooked. The verdict is split: visuals alone are not enough to carry a game this grindy and opaque.
