Editorial Has potential
Happy Summer is a completed visual novel that finally delivers on long-awaited romantic content, particularly a scene with the daughter character that players have anticipated for years. The creative work itself—characters, relationships, and intimate moments—lands well for its audience and justifies a playthrough for fans of slow-burn, family-focused adult VNs. However, the game suffers from significant technical and design problems that undermine the experience. A complete rebuild in v0.6.9+ broke save compatibility and introduced new bugs; the current build crashes on startup for some players, runs slowly (described as "a disabled snail"), and lacks quality-of-life features like a skip-to-new-content button or hints for progression. The notorious grind—excessive time-wasting between story beats—persists even after the remake, and many reviews express frustration that the dev prioritized length over pacing. The Windows version is the only stable option; Mac and Android are effectively unsupported. Completing the story is possible, but expect technical friction and patience-testing design alongside the rewarding character moments.
