Genealogy of Fantasy: The Shrine Maiden's Beginning

Touhou Gensokyo Chronicles is a turn-based tactical simulation RPG set in Meiji 16 (1883), before the creation of Gensokyo, when humans and youkai still inhabited the same world. The story follows a nameless girl with mysterious charm who arrives at Yukari Yakumo's hidden village after all protective barriers vanish. As tensions rise between a modernizing human civilization and a youkai world facing denial and extinction, the protagonist and Yukari must navigate a turbulent conflict that will shape the future of both races. The core gameplay centers on turn-based tactical combat with 49 recruitable characters from across the Touhou universe—including Yukari, Ran, Yuyuko, and youkai from various factions. Players deploy units on terrain-based maps where forests provide evasion, water aids defense, and wastelands create disadvantages. A rock-paper-scissors bullet system (tracking vs. large vs. high-speed) adds strategic depth, with support combinations like "Resonance" (2 units) and "Trinity" (3 units) enabling powerful team attacks. The game features 59 distinct skills affecting offense, defense, movement, and healing. Progression spans 26 chapters (21 main story, 5 sidestories) with customizable difficulty: "Classic" mode (fallen allies do not return) and "Casual" mode (allies recover between chapters). Character growth involves leveling, class evolution via gemstones, and equipment management. Over 137 support conversations unlock as characters bond through combat, revealing personality and backstory beyond battle.
