Editorial Worth it
Driftborne is a cerebral, slow-burn mystery anchored by strong writing and characterisation. The MC—a weary immortal with a dangerous past—draws comparisons to *The Man from Earth* and *Highlander*, and the story unfolds deliberately, rewarding patient players with genuine intrigue (the serial killer investigation, the implied daughter, shadowy figures hunting the MC). The Police Chief is widely praised for sharp banter and nuanced development. However, the game divides its audience sharply on scope: it explicitly rejects a harem structure in favour of exclusive routes, and several players—particularly fans of the developer's prior game—find this choice disappointing enough to skip it. The writing is literate and the character interactions feel earned rather than rushed, but for those seeking a 'collect all the girls' experience, Driftborne's deliberate, monogamous-leaning vision simply isn't for them. Technical execution is solid; community feedback on the current build is sparse but positive.
