Editorial Meh
Bastard Chronicles presents an ambitious fantasy sandbox with drawn art and animated scenes, but stumbles badly on accessibility. The core complaint across reviews is stark: no tutorial for mechanics, combat systems, or goals. New players hit combat difficulty spikes immediately, face opaque stat/romance systems, and struggle with unintuitive UI (no home button, unclear save function on Android). A few dedicated players report that persistence pays off and bugs even out with leveling, but the barrier to entry is brutal enough that many bounce before reaching that point. The game has bones—character art, combat minigames, a dom/sub romance system—but buries them under grind and friction. Story progression also has sequencing issues: references to events that haven't happened yet, stat gates that feel arbitrary, and sex scenes that are animated but silent. For players willing to learn its systems, there's something here; for most, the lack of onboarding makes it feel abandoned rather than inviting.
