Editorial Meh
B.E.S.T is a competition-themed adult visual novel that prioritizes story and character development over explicit content—a choice that divides its audience sharply. The renders are genuinely impressive, with detailed environments and well-modeled characters, and the branching narrative around a 100-person elite tournament offers meaningful choices that affect relationship progression and stat-based outcomes. However, the execution falters in critical ways: the story feels rushed and railroaded, with characters bonding implausibly fast and the protagonist making uncomfortably forward advances within hours of meeting people. Animations are sparse and repetitive (1–3 second loops), sex scenes arrive late and are sparse overall, and the game shipped as only the first season of a multi-part saga—making the $11.79 asking price feel steep for roughly 6–9 hours of content (less if replaying for alternative paths). Some players appreciate the focus on narrative and character arcs over sex; others feel misled by the adult-game label and frustrated by the incompleteness. The walkthrough and DLC-locked guides are poorly implemented, and several design choices (railroaded competition outcomes, stat gates that limit real choice, inconsistent character reactions across branching paths) undermine the promise of meaningful player agency.
