After Thunder is a far-east fantasy visual novel with a strong foundation in writing and worldbuilding that reviewers actively enjoy. The story balances player choice with narrative momentum, and the character roster (particularly Fen and Yumi) has generated genuine engagement. However, the current build (0.3) carries a pattern of technical problems: crashes tied to scene transitions (the 'Dissolve' error), gallery menu crashes, and dialogue display modes that can render text unreadable—compounded by numerous typos and naming inconsistencies (Re-ying vs. Rei-ying, character name swaps) that break immersion. The dev is responsive to feedback, but these issues are frequent enough to disrupt play for a meaningful fraction of testers.
