Editorial Has potential
A Son and Heir is an ambitious gender-transformation visual novel with solid writing, dream sequences, and multiple branching paths that genuinely appeal to its core audience—but it is currently hampered by significant technical problems and incomplete content that make it hard to recommend in its present state. The game's strongest elements are its narrative branches (six distinct paths from the protagonist's education onward), atmospheric dream segments, and magical worldbuilding. Many players appreciate the slow-burn pacing and the focus on motherhood and feminization as central themes. However, the build suffers from recurring bugs: clothing disappearing at key transitions, narrative gates where required items (pendants, wardrobe pieces) fail to appear or behave unpredictably, progression blockers (the "date preparation" dream, the mansion endpoint), and clunky UI design—particularly the seven-step morning routine and wardrobe menu that doesn't close properly after dressing. Several players report the game is effectively unplayable at certain points until they restart or find workarounds. The developer is actively patching (v0.30 is recent), but save compatibility keeps breaking and major bugs persist across versions. For players patient with unfinished work and willing to debug their own progress, the creative vision is there; everyone else should wait for a more stable release.
