Editorial Worth it
9-nine- Episode 1 & 2 is a mystery visual novel with strong character chemistry and engaging plot twists that build momentum across its episodic structure. The first episode serves primarily as setup—introducing the world, mechanics, and cast—which some find slow, but the narrative accelerates significantly by Episode 2 onwards, delivering the kind of page-turner pacing that keeps players reading late into the night. The art is consistently praised as gorgeous, voice acting feels natural and well-directed, and the blend of slice-of-life romance, mystery, and action keeps the tone unpredictable. That said, the series is expensive and deliberately split across multiple purchases, which frustrates some players; Episode 1 in particular is light on story and heavy on romance setup, so expectations should be tempered. A censorship patch is also required on Steam to access the full experience. For fans of character-driven mysteries with humor and high stakes, it's worth the investment—but know you're buying an extended commitment and a slow burn opening.
